A Doppler ultrasound study is a test that uses sound waves to examine the structures inside the body and to evaluate blood flow at the same time.
The Carotid Doppler ultrasound evaluates the artery in the neck to measure blood flow to the face and brain. The vascular studies show flow in the extremities. With this test, problems with the veins and arteries can be detected.
This test captures the electrical activity of your heart and runs it out on a
piece of graphing paper. This test takes approximately 10 minutes.
Pharmacologic stress tests are used in people who are unable to perform exercise on the treadmill. In these tests, a medication (adenosine) is injected into the bloodstream through an IV line. The medication stimulates the heart and simulates exercise. The radioisotope is then injected after the adenosine and the pictures of the blood flow are generated as with treadmill exercise.
